Kevin Halliday, 36
Owner, Spindle, Stairs & Railings
By Robert Pound
If Kevin Halliday ever decides to pack in his business, he can always become a motivational speaker. As the leading purveyor of all things stairs, he is very focused and driven – the Tony Robbins of the construction industry.
Like most good business tales, Halliday’s had humble beginnings. Starting out with nothing but a pick-up truck and a smile, he built his business one stair at a time, the exuberance of a new venture trumping a start-up’s weak-kneed uncertainty. “I knew that when I started, nothing could stop me,” says Halliday. Growing a business that is moving into 20,000 square feet of manufacturing space, and now setting up a training program with SAIT to teach people about the industry and his one-of-a-kind products, is all part of Halliday’s grand design. “We are where we are because we imagined it.”
Accolades such as Best New Idea at the 2003 Sam Awards and a medal finish at the 2003 Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year awards celebrated Halliday’s special blend of fearless entrepreneurial spirit. |
